Lab Time

So this is where the fun begins. We are starting the experiments from this point and on! It will be put into an easy to follow lab format. It won't have all of the writing, just the fun! Enjoy.

Purpose: To examine the effectiveness of Vinegar and Spray 'n Wash Dual Power on laundry stains.

Which one do you think will win this little competition?
I personally think that Spray 'n Wash Dual Power will win. This product was made to remove laundry stains and vinegar is just an all-purpose cleaner that will not effectively remove stains.

Here is the list of materials and apparatus that you are going to need:
- 4 cups of pure white vinegar
- 2 cups of warm water
- Spray 'n Wash Dual Power
- Half of a large bucket of water (nothing specific)
- 6 square/rectangular pieces of white cotton fabric
- Mustard (any brand)
- Red Wine (any brand)
- Make up (Mascara, lipstick, lip gloss from any brand)
- A little bit of elbow grease!
- Time and patience

Apparatus:
- Table/Work space
- Sink
- Scissors (if needed to cut the pieces of fabric)
- Large Bucket

- Gloves (I used the ones you use to wash dishes)
- Phone/timer

That's it! Now onto what I personally did, and how this experiment should go. It's the procedure, basically.

1. Gather all materials. You do not want to be scrambling around finding things.
2. If needed, cut out 6 pieces of white cotton fabric into rectangles/squares.
3. Take mustard and put some on one piece of fabric. Grab the other piece, place on top of the first piece with the mustard and press. Make sure enough mustard is distributed onto both pieces of fabric.
4. Take red wine and soak 2 pieces of fabric. Try to keep the wine in the center of the fabric so you can see the difference between the stain and the white fabric.
5. Take the make up, (mascara, lip stick and lip gloss) and apply those in a straight line onto the last 2 pieces of fabric. Keep it as equal as possible.
6. Set timer for an hour and let stains dry and for the fabrics to absorb each stain.
7. Put 4 cups of vinegar into the sink along with 2 cups of warm water. Mix the mixture to ensure everything is incorporated.
8. Fill the bucket half way with warm water.
9. When that one hour mark is done, place one mustard stained fabric, one red wine stained fabric and one make up stained fabric into the vinegar and water mixture. Start scrubbing. Allow 2-3 minutes of scrubbing for each piece of fabric.
10. When the scrubbing of all 3 pieces of fabric is finished, leave them in the mixture for 10 minutes. Set timer.
11. While the 10 minutes is going for the vinegar solution, take Spray 'n Wash Dual Power and soak the remaining 3 pieces of fabric. Make sure you read the instructions and dispense the liquid properly.
12. Set timer for 3 minutes and allow the stains to soak for 3 minutes.
13. When the 3 minutes is over, bring the 3 pieces to the bucket and begin scrubbing. Once again, 2-3 minutes of scrubbing if necessary.
14. Once scrubbing is done, leave the 3 pieces in the bucket filled with water to soak for 10 minutes.
15. Return to vinegar mixture to do a second scrubbing if necessary. Use that muscle!
16. Once you scrubbed as much as you think you could, set the 3 pieces on the side of the sink or aside to dry a little.
17. Return to Spray 'n Wash Dual Power to do a second scrubbing if necessary. Scrub, scrub and scrub!
18. Once finished scrubbing, set on the edge of the bucket to dry a little also.
19. Empty sink and rinse all 6 pieces (remember to keep them in their categories, vinegar washed and Spray 'n Wash Dual Power washed) under warm water.
20. Reveal the results with the wet pieces.
21. Observe and record any necessary information.
22. Lay pieces out to air dry for 4-5 hours.
23. Clean up your work station.
24. Record your observations with the dry pieces of fabric if necessary.

There it is, ladies and gentlemen! It may seem like a lot of steps, but the steps are all very generic and done out of common sense. If you would like to see how I did the experiment, please click on the Staining Process link to begin the video journey. The staining process is self-explanatory. Just a video of me staining the 6 pieces of fabric. Turn your speakers up, there's some music to go along so the videos won't be too boring. Cheers!
